Thomasville, NC – August 4, 2009– Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is celebrating 75 years of growth with a 27-city road tour in 2009 which includes a stop in Des Plaines, on August 7, featuring a customized tractor trailer with interactive displays outlining the company’s history.

The company has grown significantly from its founding by the Congdon family in 1934 with a single truck running between Richmond and Norfolk, Va. Seventy-five years later, Old Dominion is still family operated, but as a global publicly-traded company with 210 service centers, directly serving over 48,000 points.

“The tour will help us share and celebrate our rich history with our employees and customers who have helped us succeed in both good and difficult economic times. They are an important part of our history and our future,” said Chip Overbey, Vice President of National Accounts and Marketing for Old Dominion Freight Line. “OD recently launched a new advertising campaign with the tagline ‘Helping the World Keep Promises™’, which reflects our history of superior service to our customers, as well as our commitment to them for the next 75 years.”

The Des Plaines Service Center, located at 255 West Oakton, Des Plaines, IL will host the 19th stop on the tour. Customers and employees of Old Dominion’s nearby service centers, as well as invited guests, will have a unique opportunity to experience the OD brand via the interactive displays, historical artifacts and customized models as they walk through the inside of the rolling museum. In addition, the festivities will feature food, games, outdoor activities and service center tours from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

A website (www.od75.com) tracks the truck’s progress as it crosses the country, showing where the tour has been and where it is going. It includes video blogs and details about the rig, including construction photos that document the transformation of the trailer into this unique museum. The 75th Anniversary Tour Rig is powered by a 2009 Freightliner® DD-15™ Cascadia designed for greater fuel efficiency and cleaner emissions.

The tour began at Old Dominion’s Miami Service Center November 16, 2008. The first year of the tour will be completed September 29, 2009, at the Corporate Office in Thomasville, NC.
