Hurricane Katrina Makes Landfall in LouisianaNew Orleans Service Temporarily Suspended Due to Hurricane Damage

August 30, 2005 -- Due to Hurricane Katrina that landed in the gulf coast region, the city of New Orleans and the surrounding area has been devastated. As a result of 145 mph winds, 20 feet tidal surges, and heavy rains most of the New Orleans area is under a mandatory evacuation.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the storm. We understand that not only members of our OD family, but also many others in the New Orleans community have a tremendous burden to deal with at this time in their lives.

At Old Dominion Freight Line, we are working on a plan to assist in the recovery effort there in New Orleans, both for those personally affected, as well as a plan to service our customers. As result of the devastation, OD is presently non-operational in the New Orleans area. Due to the flooding and restrictions from the local authorities, we currently cannot determine the extent of the damage suffered by our OD facility. At present, we do not know when we will be able to gain access to the facility or the surrounding area to make any assessments.

Therefore, until further notice, we are temporarily suspending service to our New Orleans service center area with the exception of emergency supplies. In an attempt to support the relief effort, if you are shipping emergency supplies for the recovery effort, we will pick up those supplies and take them as far as we can, based on the flood conditions and the restrictions imposed by the authorities. Please understand, that we have very limited access to the area and we cannot provide a guaranteed to time of delivery. Should you need to ship emergency supplies to the New Orleans area, please contact us at our Solutions Center at 800-235-5569 (Option 3)

If you have shipments in the Old Dominion network that are currently in route to the New Orleans areas, please to contact your Old Dominion Sales Representative or our Infocall1 service at 800-235-5569 for assistance.
