Must have Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and proper endorsements. Endorsements required are:"T" - Double or Triples
"H" or "X" - Hazardous materials
Education
Graduate of high school or equivalent thereof preferred; however, in lieu of this requirement a person who has at least (5) years of verifiable accident free driving may be acceptable.
Experience
a) A minimum of (12) months verifiable experience in tractor/semi-trailer/twin-trailer operation or
b) Has successfully completed a certified Truck Driving School (copy of Graduation Certificate is required) or
c) Satisfactory completion of the Old Dominion Truck Driver Training Program (ODTDT - 8/88).
A Certified School is one which is certified by: The State or The Professional Truck Driver Institute of America (PTDIA) or The American Truck Driving Association (ATA) and Safety Department approved.
Graduates hired from a Certified truck driving school or ODTDT-8/88, as outlined above, cannot be placed together as a team operation. Each must placed with an experienced, qualified, selected driver trainer for the period set out under the heading "Orientation/Training Program." All new hire drivers must receive the required training/indoctrination as outlined under the heading "Orientation / Training Program" in order to insure they meet and / or exceed both DOT and Old Dominion qualifications.
An employee who is unable to meet the company experience requirements as set forth herein may apply for the Old Dominion Truck driver Training Program (ODTDT-8/88) provided they meet the requirements/qualifications of that program.
Driving Record
No more than (4) moving motor vehicle violations or chargeable accidents, or combination thereof, within (3) years preceding the date of application with no more than (2) moving motor violations in the (12) months preceding the date of application.
Applicant will not be considered for lease driver if applicant has been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol (DWI, DUI, DWAI) within (4) years preceding the date of application.
Applicant will not be considered for lease driver if applicant has been convicted of driving under the influence of a controlled substance (DRUGS) in his/her lifetime.
Applicant will not be considered for lease driver if applicant has been convicted (2) or more times of driving under the influence of alcohol (DWI, DUI, DWAI) in his/her lifetime.
Applicant will not be considered for lease driver if applicant has been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol (DWI, DUI, DWAI) in an accident related incident in his/her lifetime.
Physical Requirements
Must take a medical examination by a designated company physician and pass the established DOT and company requirements, including Substance (DRUG) testing.
Note: A valid physical is acceptable provided:
1) The driver furnishes the long form physical and
2) The physical expiration date is not less than 12 months from hire date.
Conviction Record
No criminal conviction (excluding convictions of motor vehicle violations) within the (3) year period immediately preceding the application date.
No felony, theft, or larceny conviction within the applicant's lifetime. (Consideration may be given to an applicant whose conviction occurred while under 21 yrs of age provided employment is first approved by the Director of Safety and/or the Safety Review Board - depending on seriousness and time lapse).
No conviction related to disqualification offenses as set forth by the Department of Transportation (section 391.15 of the Motor Carriers Safety Regulations) which would disqualify him/her under such regulations.
In the event the applicant has had a conviction which would disqualify him/her under this section, but the conviction is not discovered until after he/she has been hired, his/her application for employment shall be reconsidered as if he/she had applied for employment after Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. had knowledge of such convictions.
Past Work Record
Must be acceptable from company standpoint with regard to quality of work, cooperation with others, safety habits, and driving skills (as ascertained from the telephone and written reference checks). Contact us for more info
