Orientation/Training Program for Drivers/New Hires

Drivers With Nine (9) or More Months Experience

Local Driver

Must spend a minimum of (2) full days with the designated Driver Trainer. The Driver Trainer is to utilize the "Old Dominion Freight Line Driver's Handbook" and the "Drivers Claims Prevention Manual" to aid in the training. The Driver Trainer also needs to insure the Trainee has received and knows how to utilize these handbooks. Training is not limited to but must include:

Equipment inspection and coupling as outlined in Chapter 4.

Hazardous Material handling procedures as outlined in Chapter 5.

Freight handling and paper work procedures as outlined in Chapter 6 of the Driver's Handbook and the Claims Prevention Manual.

Cargo Security as outlined in Chapter 7.

Accident reporting and accident prevention as outlined in Chapters 10 & 11.

Road Driver

Must spend a minimum of (2) Road Trips (minimum miles - 800) with the designated Driver Trainer. The Driver Trainer is to utilize the "Old Dominion Freight Line Driver's Handbook" and the "Driver's Claims Prevention Manual" to aid in the training. The Driver Trainer also needs to insure the Trainee received and knows how to utilize these handbooks. Training is not limited to but must include:

Equipment inspection and coupling as outlined in Chapter 4.

Hazardous Material Handling procedures as outlined in Chapter 5.

Cargo security as outlined in Chapter 7.

Line-haul procedures as outlined in Chapter 6.

Logs and logging regulations as outlined in Chapter 9.

Accident reporting and accident prevention as outlined in Chapters 10 & 11.

Breakdown procedures as outlined in Chapter 13.

Graduates From Certified and O.D. Approved Truck Driving School

Local Driver

Must spend a minimum of (5) full days with the designated Trainers.

Day 1
Driver Trainee works on in-bound dock shift with Dock Trainer to become familiar with the company, freight handling and paper work procedures.

Day 2
The Trainee is assigned to a Driver Trainer. (On the first day with the Driver Trainer the Trainee does not drive. However, the Trainee is to assist the Trainer with all other responsibilities). The driver Trainer is to utilize the "Old Dominion Freight Line Driver's Handbook" and the "Driver's Claims Prevention Manual". The Driver Trainer also needs to insure the Trainee has received and knows how to utilize these handbooks.

Days 3 thru 5
At the Trainer discretion, the Trainee may drive. Training is not limited to but must include:

Equipment inspection and coupling as outlined in Chapter 4.

Hazardous Material Handling procedures as outlined in Chapter 5.

Freight handling and paper work procedures as outlined in Chapter 6 of the Driver's Handbook and the Claims Prevention Manual.

Cargo Security as outlined in Chapter 7.

Accident reporting and accident prevention as outlined in Chapters 10 & 11.

Road Driver

Must spend a minimum of 2 weeks with designated Driver Trainer. (During the first week the Trainer and Trainee may not run as a Team. However, on the second week they may). The Driver Trainer is to utilize the "Old Dominion Freight Line Driver's Handbook" and the "Driver's Claims Prevention Manual" to aid in training. The Driver Trainer also needs to insure the Trainee has received and knows how to utilize these handbooks. Training is not limited to but must include:
